Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion and Peel System
When people think of skin care, a lot of them think of Olay. We have tested many Olay regenerist products and usually they work pretty well. So, it was with high expectations that we began to test the Regenerist Microdermabrasion and Peel System on our 30 subjects for the study of home microdermabrasion kits. While the system was not the worst home microdermabrasion product that we tested, our findings were a bit of a disappointment.
The Olay Regenerist system works by combining two different methods of cleaning the skin: microdermabrasion and a mini-peel. You apply the product’s “derma-crystals” to your skin and use them to cover your face. Then, massage for about a minute. The next step is to take the applicator serum that comes with the system and create a thicker mask on your face before massaging once more for a minute. The entire process does not take that long, and our subjects report that feels somewhat relaxing while it works with a soothing warming sensation. The results were mixed, about 40% of our test group reported a significant improvement in overall skin health and appearance as apposed to 5% in our control group.
Pros:
- Simple to use: Olay Regenerist only takes 3-5 minutes per use, and you only have to use it two times a week. Plus, the steps are pretty straightforward.
- Relaxing: When you are applying the serum, your face may start to “glow” with warmness. As you massage your face this make actually start to feel relaxing.
Cons:
- Irritation: Olay Regenerist can irritate your skin, especially if you use it more than once or twice. The derma-crystals are mini-abrasives that are made to mimic crystal microdermabrasion.
- Results less than optimal: Although the Olay Regenerist system does work with efficacy, it did not show to be the best performing product on the market for home microdermabrasion kits.
The bottom line is that Olay Regenerist is a good value for the money at $27. When compared to other products on the market, such as the Youthful Essence Microdermabrasion Kit, Olay Regenerist just does not really measure up.

L’Oreal Dermo Expertise Refinish Microdermabrasion Home Kit Review
L’Oreal Dermo Expertise is definitely less expensive than its peers, but how does the efficacy match up? This kit does not come with a resurfacing tool as with other popular kits on the market. Instead, it contains only two ingredients: a Gentle Micro-Dermabrasion Exfoliator with aluminum oxide crystals, and a Post-Treatment Protective Moisturizer. This moistuizer comes with Vitamin E and other natural ingredients that can help to hydrate your skin. Our sample group reported overall efficacy of this product to be moderately positive and the comfort to be excellent. Only 35% of our test group reported significant long term results from the use of this home microdermabrasion kit.
To use this product, simply wash and dry your face, then apply the first ingredient – the exfoliator – with enough liquid to cover a quarter. Then, rub this into your skin into your face with a circular motion for about two-three minutes, making sure to get every area. Rinse, and then apply the moisturizer to your skin. The process is fairly simple and straightforward, which is always nice.
Pros:
- At $23, this really is one of the more affordable home microdermabrasion kits on the market. While this does not necessarily guarantee that you will like the product,
at least you will not spend a lot of money by purchasing it.
- A simple process ensures that there isn’t really much of an opportunity for messing up the procedures. L’Oreal Dermo Expertise Refinish is good for those who
value simplicity and ease of use over anything else.
Cons:
- This product may be simple and easy to use, but its lack of a resurfacing tool or any other implement really handicaps the kit. You can find better results with a kit
that comes with a well designed tool, such as the Youthful Essence Microdermabrasion Kit.
- With a name like L’Oreal, you would expect this product to really hit a home run. Our testing group reported good results overall, but it is not the best kit on the market.
If you value a complete performance with high-quality results, then you might want to consider something else.

Dermanew Microdermabrasion Kit Review
Our review of Dermanew microdermabrasion home kit was overall a positive one. This product does not replace a professional diamond microdermabrasion treatment, but it does yield moderate to strong results.
Dermanew’s kit comes with several components. The most important one is called the Facial Rejuvenation Formula Microdermabrasion Cream, which comes with several natural ingredients like aloe that they say help your complexion and keep it healthy. The next component is a resurfacing tool, followed by two foam applicators and a bristled brush. As far as ingredients go, Dermanew does not seem to be much different from other products on the market. But how was its performance?
Our study reveals that Dermanew microdermabrasion home kit is a good, solid product. We initially had our test subjects use twice a week as the product indicates. Each session takes only a few minutes, which is a plus for this product. The resurfacing tool is conveniently ergonomic as well, and is quite nice. After using this product over two weeks, we noticed the test group did not have remarkable results. Only 30% of our test group reported having significant long term improvement in skin texture and appearance. The resurfacing tool is useful, but we don’t think the cream is up to par. After a certain initial point of improvement, the results did not improve much over time.
Another drawback, is the price. The kit costs $70, which is exorbitantly expensive for a mediocre microdermabrasion kit. As it is, we cannot recommend this to you over products like Youthful Essence 30-day microdermabrasion kit![]()

Zenmed Microdermabrasion Complex Kit Review
The Zenmed Microdermabrasion Complex is a program designed to clean and exfoliate your face with microdermabrasion, a process that basically scrubs your skin and smoothes it out. This takes care of lines, spots, clogged pores, sun damage, and other unsightly blemishes on your skin. We found moderate results with our scientific study of home microdermabrasion kits. Only 4% of our test subjects reported significant long term improvement in skin texture and appearance.
How the System Works
As far as home microdermabrasion kits go, Zenmed is pretty simple. It consists of a 4-oz jar of formulated clay reinforced with minerals and other natural ingredients designed to be rubbed on and massaged into your face. The granular material exfoliates the skin and basically grinds away any blemishes, leaving (hopefully) a smooth, clean surface.
Pros:
-There are a couple of benefits to using Zenmed. The first is that it is very simple. Some home kits have resurfacing tools. Zenmed does not; it is just a jar of cream with no
other extra parts or components. Another benefit is that Zenmed is all natural and provides a cleansing experience without the use of soap or grease. Your face will feel
smooth after using this product.
Cons:
The main drawback is that this product just is not that effective as its manufacturers claim. We used Zenmed according to the instructions on our test subjects for weeks and
noted only marginal improvement. It did help lessen the appearance of a few small red spots, but the other skin blemishes remained, and our test subjects reported their skin
began to look and feel dull and dry. Another drawback is the same as a benefit: it is too simple. The best home microdermabrasion kits, according to our study, have used
have resurfacing tools, such as Youthful Essence Microdermabrasion Kit.
